Learning Activities
PSSKPD adopts a Problem Based Learning (PBL) system where the learning and teaching process is not only delivered through lectures and practicum. PSSKPD students undergo several learning methods designed to increase the retention of medical knowledge in students and stimulate student activity and creativity during the teaching and learning process. The teaching and learning process at PSSKPD is divided into several activities, namely:
1. Lecture
Lecture is a theoretical presentation of the teaching and learning system at PSSKPD. Lectures are generally divided into introductory lectures and core material lectures. Lecturers deliver lectures using power point media both offline and online. Basic points in related medical science constructs are presented in lectures which will be further explored by students during Individual Learning and Small-Group Discussion (SGD) as well as during Student Project (SP) preparation. Lectures are held in the lecture halls of the FK Building, Laboratory Room, or online using the WEBEX application facility which is available free of charge for every PSSKPD academic community.
2. Individual Learning
Individual learning is an independent learning activity which is generally scheduled between lectures and SGD or between SGD and Plenary. In this phase, students delve deeper into the basic theories presented in lectures both independently and in groups. Free internet access facilities and a library (e-library and physical library) are provided by the medical faculty to support this process. Individual learning activities are not limited to the campus environment but can also be implemented in other locations. In the campus environment, chairs and tables are available along the hallways of the FK building and SGD rooms that can be accessed and used by students to carry out individual learning.
3. Small-Group Discussion (SGD)
SGD is designed so that PSSKPD students understand in depth the medical science they study in the form of clinical cases taken from the field. Cases are presented in vignette form accompanied by several open questions. Students will discuss with their SGD group to solve problems from the cases presented by using open questions on cases as a guide. The SGD process is accompanied by a lecturer facilitator who is in charge of mediating and directing discussions but does not dictate or teach students. Case answers in SGD will be discussed in the Plenary where the lecturer will discuss the SGD case comprehensively and students can ask questions or opinions related to the case being discussed.
4. Pleno
Plenary is a session where lecturers who give lectures discuss SGD clinical cases that have been discussed by students. The plenary begins with a case presentation by students and is followed by providing feedback by the lecturer and discussions between students or between students and lecturers. In this phase, students will know the relationship between theoretical views and cases as well as field applications of the theories being taught.
5. Basic Clinical Skill (BCS)
BCS is a basic clinical skill that is taught to medical students and adapted to the course material in the semester they are living. The clinical skills taught are clinical skills that will be used by students when taking the phase of professional education or when students have completed their medical education. BCS is carried out in the skill lab of FK UNUD and is accompanied by a facilitating lecturer.
6. Basic Laboratory Practice
Basic Lab Skills are given when students are studying in the first year and are adapted to the basic material provided (Histology, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Biochemistry). Basic lab skills are not directly related to clinical skills but help students understand basic medical material and assist students when conducting basic medical research with lecturers, in their thesis, or when continuing their education in basic medical sciences.
